Dawood Mian, Founder of AutoMarketplace, breaks down how NYC’s rideshare market really works — and why bringing robotaxis to New York is harder than it looks
The medallion was created for a purpose , sustainable income for the driver , the fleet medallions were created for public service , owner/drivers were not obligated to work , but fleet medallion were
Sure, that's fair. But obviously there was a lot of pent up demand considering there are now an additional 100k+ rideshare vehicles on the streets of NYC. So 13k way too little but 200k probably too much. Which is why the cap was put in place and I think is working relatively well.
The problem is I just don't trust regulators to effectively adjust the cap up or down based on supply and demand. The minimum pay formula does ensure some balance though..
The city council forfeited billions in medallion sales . Turned its back on the exclusive that medallions cabs bought. The exclusive had a purpose to keep the taxi industry financially stable by regulating competition , to be proper , apps have to use a medallion car , bc medallion cars have the right to use streethail and an ehail is a street-hail. It's instantaneous dispatch thru a base , is a farce , that's not based dispatched. That's a trick just like a gypsy
You were wrong and disparaging for medallion cars , on Uber , yellow doesn't show up when passengers request uberx , it's not an error when they get yellow it's their choice
Mike, the way it technically works on the Uber app is the passenger doesn't choose yellow or black car in NYC- they select UberX on the app and then Uber chooses what to dispatch for several reasons. If you open the Uber app and scroll all the way to the bottom there is a Uber Taxi option but most riders in NYC are getting a yellow cab via selecting UberX.
Thanks for having me on Harry, enjoyed the discussion!

The way it works is you select your choice , and you get what you select , you disparage people who want taxis thru Ubers app
